The Dane County Historical Society was incorporated as an affiliate of the State Historical Society on January 16, 1961. We're a private, non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) organization. Our primary mission is education: promoting an awareness of Dane County's rich heritage, thus aiding in its preservation. One hundred percent of our budget goes toward carrying out our mission. We carry out this mission through our programs and publications.

The "Madison Mirror" is going online!
The Dane County Historical Society, which houses the only known full-run original copy of Madison Central High School's student newspaper, "The Madison Mirror", is preparing to digitize the paper and make the full-text available for free on our website. Plans are for issues from 1924 through 1969 to be posted in their entirety.
