And Now For Some Announcements:
Poll Workers Needed The City of Madison has requested our assistance in identifying state and university employees to work at the polls on Election Day, November 7, 2006. This is a great opportunity to assist your City in ensuring that the 2006 general election goes smoothly, and that all eligible voters have an opportunity to vote. The City particularly needs help with processing the registrations of those individuals who register to vote at the polls.
You must be a resident of the City of Madison in order to assist the City at the polls on Election Day.
Many of you may already be election officials for the City of Madison or another municipality. If so, please do not respond to this call for volunteers. This is a request for volunteers above and beyond existing poll workers.
By law, state and university employees are eligible to be in pay status for up to 8 hours on Election Day. They cannot incur overtime as a result of their Election Day service. If you are interested, please discuss with you’re your manager or supervisor to secure approval. Operational needs of your work unit will take priority over serving as a poll worker.
Here are some things to know about volunteering to assist the City on Election Day:
- The City has asked us to advise you that you will mostly likely not be able to work at your own polling location. Rather, the City needs a pool of people who are willing to work at any polling location throughout the City, as needed. You will be advised in advance of Election Day of your assigned poll location.
- The City will provide brief training at the polls on Election Day. The City will also email a PowerPoint presentation on voter registration that you can review prior to Election Day.
- The City needs people who are willing to work one of three shifts at the polls:
- 6:15 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- 6:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Once you have received clearance from your supervisor/manager, please send an email with the following information to Darlene Retallick (dretallick@ohr.wisc.edu).
- Your name
- Your e-mail address
- Your daytime phone number
- Your chosen poll worker shift
If you are willing and able to volunteer, please let us know by this coming Tuesday, October 31.
Thank you very much for your willingness to assist on Election Day.
