About The League of Women Voters — Dane County

The League of Women Voters is an organization of women and men that is non-partisan, community-based and organized at the local, state and national levels. Its goals for the 21st century include a renewed commitment to:

  • Reconnecting citizens with government
  • Enhancing voter participation
  • Including all voices in civic life
  • Strengthening the democratic process through reform

In our community, the League of Women Voters of Dane County (LWVDC) registers voters, provides information on voting, moderates live and televised candidate forums, and invites speakers to open meetings to address topics under study by the membership.

To support educational programs such as Candidates' Answers, you may contribute to the League of Women Voters of Dane County. Tax deductible checks should be made payable to the LWV-Education Fund and sent to LWVDC at 2712 Marshall Ct., Suite 2, Madison 53705-2282.

Our office is open 9 a.m. – noon Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. League meetings are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Call the office at (608) 232-9447 for places and times.

History

The LWV was founded by members of the of the National American Woman Suffrage Association at their last convention in 1920. This convention was a victory celebration a few months before the final ratification of the constitutional amendment that provided women with the right to vote.
