Being NONPARTISAN means while representing the Coalition
and its member organizations we:
Do not -
1. support, oppose or provide aid to any candidate for public office or
to any political party.
2. wear campaign buttons or make our personal views about
candidates, parties and issues known while we are engaging in nonpartisan
registration or get-out-the-vote activities.
Do -
1. provide registration and voting assistance, information and materials to
anyone who requests it.
2. take care to separate our advocacy activities from
our registration and get-out-the-vote efforts.
3. with special care, raise issues in a nonpartisan way to
motivate citizens to register and vote as long as we are not identified with the
policies or positions of any parties or candidates, including incumbents. For example, if you
are registering voters in a food stamp line, you might point to the federal
governments' responsibility for providing or withholding funds for social
services.
In addition -
coalition and member organization leaders should not be
personally or publicly identified with any candidate or political party.
